I have always loved keeping myself involved with anything that I can express my talents in. Within the shop you can find hand-knit, one-of-a-kind shawls, wraps and scarves that are fashioned by combining diverse yarn textures and color palettes. Designed for today’s woman, all items encompass both style and comfort. You can tell that Lois world is truly inspired from colors and textures in the "everyday world around me". In everything Lois list in her shop you can tell that her "Knitting was my avocation long before it was my vocation, and each item is hand knit with love. I take great pride in my workmanship, and if something isn’t up to my standards, it doesn’t go into my shop. Such as her fellow teammates on ETT, her newest items she or her mama Fox has made, Her Art from the Heart feature on her blog, or beautiful quotes/saying about those who are in her life. When asked about her twitter tricks of the trade Lois shared with me the following:

"I am not sure that this is a “trick of the trade,” but I don’t tweet anything I wouldn’t mind seeing on the front page of the New York Times! On a serious note, I work at building relationships on twitter. I do this by sharing valuable information, retweeting friends’ and colleagues’ sales and promotions and not boring people with what I had for lunch or letting them know when I am leaving for the post office. Within her shop you can find gifts for men, women, brides, and teens. You can see that in every piece that Wendy makes she takes pride and is very meticulous with her workmanship to ensure a special pieces for each of her customers. Please see her shop for international shipping details and convo her if you need more information.

Wendy admits that "I love to work with metal wire (sterling, copper, brass) and love the sparkle and unique qualities found in glass, stone, and semi-precious beads. I choose materials of quality and pride myself on representing my materials and jewelry with integrity. I purchase my materials in small quantities, so I sell limited production or one of a kind pieces."
She explained to me that her inspirations really are not much of inspiration as it is an "Addiction. Really, my inspiration is as uncontrived as seeing something new to “play” with, the interplay of color, or the hypnotic affect of sparkly things. Although my husband groans at stepping into a bead or craft store, he has learned to bring his Blackberry for company and is really very patient when my head starts spinning with possibilities."

Although Wendy is new to Twitter and Etsy (opened on 1/5/09-Happy one year!!) she would like to share what she has learned on twitter: "I’ve tried to develop a following for my business by tweeting new items in my shop; but I also like the camaraderie of tweeting with other business owners. I think that Twitter and especially the Etsy Twitter Team offer a great way for business owners to connect and help support each other. It’s amazing how a kind tweet or re-tweet has the ability to open each business to a whole new network of people."

Since her store just celebrated its first Anniversary on etsy Wendy has taken on the following resolution for 2010: "last year I put a lot of time into learning about e-commerce and developing the software I needed to make my business end run efficiently. This year I am taking courses to hone and expand my metalworking skills and will put more of my time into design development and building my portfolio."

Good luck Wendy we look forward to seeing your new metal work and designs in 2010!

From January 18th-24th Wendy is offering the following discount in her shop:

FREE US SHIPPING on all items in my Etsy shop
- PLUS a 10% discount on purchases totaling $50 or more* ·
Discount will be refunded to PayPal after payment or you may convo me before payment for a revised invoice. This past week she was shop of the week for the Etsy twitter team. I asked her to answer some random questions about herself and her shop. Here are her answers..please enjoy!

- who or what inspires you to do your arts and crafts? to use the colors you use? -

I like to wear shawls and hats and scarves - and pick colors that I know will look good on me - and hope that the same colors will appeal to others. The members of the Etsy Twitter team are an inspiration to me with your talent and pattern ideas!

-besides the farm stand in the summer and your etsy store what else occupies your time? - haha - sorry didn't mean to laugh - but my website Sandi's T's(http://www.sandists.com/) occupies a large part of my time - because I'm always trying to make it look better, work better, add new products, etc....

(i love your sense of humor Sandi--you keep me smiling all day long! ;)

what's your favorite food? -

since I don't do a lot of cooking other than basics - my DH likes meat and potatoes and in summer sweet corn, I really don't have one favorite food - however, if I had to choose a nationality of food, I would say Mexican - let me go to a Mexican restaurant and I'm in heaven. But none of the really spicy type please!

what's your favorite book? -

Again, there is not one favorite book - but I have several favorite authors - one is Jean Auel - waiting for her next book to come out, Diana Gabaldon - with her series Outlander - waiting for the latest book in the series, of course Steven King...

1-3 things that you would like the world to know about you on my blog that isn't listed above.

I was a navy wife and traveled a lot, but I really rather stay at home. I've been here in Virginia since 1976 - came here from Portugal (stationed there) - so it seems kind of strange that I've been here that long. But when I think about relocating (my DH and I are retired and in our 60's) it seems daunting. Of course a change of scenery might not be all that bad! I'd just need to make sure to find a house with a work room large enough to hold all my fabric and yarn!

on a side note-- Sandi has two shops which carry an amazing collection of both her work and supplies. She is a very approachable seller on etsy/twitter and has a heart of gold. If you don't see what you like in her shop please don't hesitate to ask her.

Blog: http://www.sandists.com/Wordpress/

Twitter: http://twitter.com/SandisTs

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/HandmadeBySandi/123459347500
http://handmadebysandi.etsy.com/

http://sandists.etsy.com/

http://www.sandists.com/

Jenco13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01732569676483795329noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2991322267711451537.post-19364033377415911352009-08-06T06:22:00.000-07:002009-08-06T06:32:21.184-07:00ETT Shop of the week: Uber Art

If you are in the market for a stunning hand-bound journal or guest book, look no further than UberArt.etsy.com. Was it at the office, the grocery store, your child or a friend who spoke of it? In my house we talk about recycling everyday and I try as hard as I can to clean and recycle everything I can.

With school starting right around the corner the art rooms are in need of supplies. What can you send in or call your local school to donate? Well, lets see… at breakfast you may eat eggs. That egg carton could be used in classrooms to help students learn how to sort items or make a wonderful art project. At lunchtime you may have had a yogurt. Did you know that the schools use these in many different places? In the classrooms they use it for water, paints, and glue so they don’t spill. Other schools have a local charity that may give the school 2 - 5 cents for each (cleaned) container they receive (check your local schools newsletters or websites). Then comes dinner… You’re in a rush and you take that Healthy Choice out of the freezer and pop it into the microwave. Then into the garbage afterward, right?? Wrong. Wash it set it aside and give it to a school!! They are used for science projects or painting. All of these plastics may have the number 7 on it, but we could make a difference in our daily world instead of allowing the schools to go out and buy unnecessary supplies. You can be supporting the arts as well! Don’t want to contact the school… not a problem! Contact a friend you know who does art!

One of the books I have in my house is all about recycling. I haven’t gotten a chance to read all of it yet, but there are some really good steps about becoming green in this book that the Etsy Twitter Team has already done. Check it out!

Paper

With the amount of paper that is wasted on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that we are losing our forest and fresh air bit by bit. ACageyBee.etsy.com makes these adorable cards with paintings of girls on them. Pick a card that looks like you or your friend to send to him or her. It will show your friends how much you’re thinking of them!!

Or how about a handmade Christmas tree ornament for that very special person from SalonDArte.etsy.com –Hey, it’s never to early to start your holiday shopping and help the earth at the same time!

Want to start a journal or a sketchbook? Many of our team’s shops recycle something that we see every day such as milk caps or dominoes. You also see them taking antique pieces of jewelry and making their own creations or upcycling vintage plastic beads and chains.

Here are some of my favorite shops:

threepeats.etsy.com - vintage

ThatsHeadley.etsy.com - recycles tins into fabulous jewelry

PunkyJane.etsy.com - metal clay silver jewelry that is recycled silver
WellspringCreations.etsy.com - all natural stone jewelry
PrettyWhimsical.etsy.com - recycled pendants
NovaScotiaBeachGlass.etsy.com - a day at the beach jewelry!
LindaB142.etsy.com - love the bottle cap earrings!!
InMyHeadStudios.etsy.com - upcycled domino and Scrabble tile pendants
FirebirdHouse.etsy.com - antique jewelry pieces made new again
EchodAmour.etsy.com - custom item jewelry with recycled metals
BeadsofGlass.etsy.com - uses metal clay that contains recycled silver (99.9% silver)

According to my book, it’s a great way to go for a vintage item such as necklaces, wedding rings, etc. instead of buying something new. Why? Because metal is not being melted down to make new items. What do you need to melt down metal? Fuel. Energy. These things are becoming precious in our world. Buying vintage really helps to save the world in the long run!

Home Decor

Decorating your home can be really hard these days. Too many choices if you ask me! Plus you want everyone to walk into your home and say, “Oooooh, that’s so nice! Where did you find that?” You can make your home one-of-a-kind by checking out these handmade goodies!

KimWhiteCreations.etsy.com – tic tack toe pillows
FirebirdHouse.etsy.com – recycled sweater felted pillows that hide your journals
GeekDetails.etsy.com – uses some upcycled materials in her work
CuriousMess.etsy.com – recycled embroidered olive oil bottles

Now go enjoy a “Go Green” party and show off your green items!!

Go Green Bags

Reuse your grocery bags!! When my great grandmother was around she used to take all of the plastic bags and twist, turn, and knot them until they became a door mat. Yes, a door mat! They lasted a lot longer than you would think and they cleaned her son’s boots off from the farm. (That’s what my grandmother tells me.) Grandma would be proud of me because even though I may not know how to make these amazing door mats, I use a recyclable bag every time I go to the grocery store, the mall, or even that big warehouse I love so much. Here are a few stores on our team that sell these bags!

PinsWithFury.etsy.com
JaybirdDesigns.etsy.com
HandmadeBySandi.etsy.com

Did you know you would also be helping animals not eat these plastics in the sea or fill our landfills? How about helping the super markets save money on plastic bags? Ask their front desk to see if they give a you discount for every reusable bag you use. It could range from 5 to 25 cents each!!

Back to School Must Haves

The last bit of shopping I want to share with you are back to school items… there will be hats, shawls, back packs, cup cozies, and sweaters that are needed for fall fashion. Jump start that fashion with some of our shops:

KnittingGuru.etsy.com - uses eco-friendly yarn
JusShar.etsy.com - shawls and the coolest skirts (with bags to match)
Jenco13.etsy.com - scarves and cup cozies
HuayruroPeru.etsy.com – eco-friendly jewelry
HerbanLifestyle.etsy.com - organic teas and bath items to help you unwind from that long day at school or work
GreenBubble.etsy.com - organic and natural bath items
AquarianBath.etsy.com - no chemical fragrants
AmieVoltaire.etsy.com – adorable eco-friendly back to school outfits for children

I hope you check out some of these amazing shops because becoming a “Go Green” person is easier than you think when you start shopping with the Etsy Twitter Team.

If you would like to know where to buy a certain Go Green item, please post your questions here and we will point you in the right direction!

Happy shopping!

- JenJenco13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01732569676483795329noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2991322267711451537.post-84954303399001550512009-07-21T05:42:00.000-07:002009-10-25T06:07:17.508-07:00shop of the week july 20- GEEKDETAILS

Amanda Roberts, of GeekDetails.etsy.com, is a very creative artist. What inspires you to make your items/craft?

I am inspired by all the wonders and colors of nature, and the pretty stones and shiny silver I love to work with. I think I have a bit of the magpie in me!

2. Do you have a special place in your home that you work in?

Yes, I have a jewelry bench set up in my home office (more on that later), but I can take small wire-wrapping projects anywhere. But I like my bench the best.

3. What else do you do besides the crafts?

I am a full-time consultant in public health - which is why I have a home office, because I do a lot of writing and data analysis - but I also travel all around Texas for projects that I work on in infectious disease control and prevention, and in emergency preparedness. I also am a wife and mom - I love all four of my jobs!

4. If you could go any place in the world where would you go?

Oh, this is a hard one for me. I want to see so many places! But the next on one my list is Paris next spring with my daughter. We're going in March, and I can hardly wait!

5. These Houses are like "Ronald McDonald" houses, except they are for families of veterans who have to travel to receive medical care. I think it is so important for us to give back to those who sacrifice all for our country, and even though it's a small contribution, it means a lot to me to be able to help even just a little bit.

to learn more about Ginny and her amazing shop please visit her blog at http://thatsheadley.blogspot.com/

follow her on twitter at : http://twitter.com/thatsheadley
or visit her shop on ETSY

Jenco13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01732569676483795329noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2991322267711451537.post-91500494525424860582009-07-01T06:40:00.000-07:002009-10-25T06:09:19.084-07:00ETT Shop of the week : SumikoShop 6/29-7/5
Evelyn Palazzin, of sumikoshop creates gorgeous jewelry and accessories for women. Beth's designs ship internationally as well as in the US, and offer the beauty and individuality of a hand-crafted card for any occasion, something many of us wish for when confronted by racks of mass-produced cards."All of what I make is something I would give to someone myself. I cut, stamp, color and put all these together by hand. I do not have any kind of printing machine or mass produce cards (wouldn't it be nice though!). All of my products are available in multiples and I'm happy to do custom orders or change colors if desired. "A stay-at-home mom to two boys, Beth finds creating an outlet for her inner girl."Most of the time, we are playing outside getting sweaty and dirty so being able to play with ribbons and glitter is a nice treat for me.My inspirations come from anywhere! I get ideas from nature, magazines, friends, anywhere really. I'm still learning every day about new techniques, ways to make my product better, ways to photograph and edit my pictures as well as new crafting products. It's a never ending lesson for me and I think that is what keeps me going and excited about my craft. "Beth also has great tips for using Twitter as a means of promoting your work:"I try to engage. I see it as a big room full of people who want to chat. When I see something that is funny, sad, inspirational, odd or whatever, I comment on it. I try to be fun and lighthearted. I don't see twitter as a forum to air my, or anyone else's, dirty laundry. I promote items that I buy, items I want, my fellow twits on the team and my own items. A piece of myself goes into it while I am creating it. If I am feeling sad or mad I don't create anything, I don't want those feelings transferred to the new owner. Each item I create is special to me and sometimes it's hard for me to let it go.”I asked Leanna how she got her start in bead weaving: “A lot of my inspiration comes from my mom. She's the one who taught me how to bead and she has stuck by me through everything. When I go through a crafting slump she's there to help me up and give me inspiration to continue making stuff. However, I rather be doing fun things outside the house now a days. It's too nice out even this morning to be sitting in front of the computer. I plan on taking a nice walk later with the hubby.

So what have I been up too?? well... I planted all of my garden for the summer. I have lettuce, tomatoes (3 types), spinach, cilantro, parsley, rosemarry (if and when it decides to come up), yellow and red peppers. I need one more pot of soil to replant the cherry tomatoes I have. Now all of this was grown from seed this year and its nice to walk outside and see how much they have grown over night. Plus it helps me help the environment. Let face it we are only going to get more clean air in the world if we start by doing something ourselves.

I have also been very very busy with work. I am very sad to see the end of the school year come to a close. I'm going to miss the smiles from the kids when they see that they have a sub for the day.

At night I come home and look at emails which on a daily basis I have about 100-200 from just that day. After about an hour on the web I normally help make dinner, go for a walk or enjoy some quality time talking with the hubby.

When dusk falls its time for crocheting, Yankee games (on the TV), or reading a book/magazine or studying. My night normally ends about 10/11 pm. I truly do not know where the day goes.

**The picture above is my make shift studio. I normally use it to sort my yarn out for new projects, sew up large blankets, or lay out the up coming projects I would like to do. In this picture I have my Blue and Green heirloom quality blanket. It has taken me awhile to do this blanket because I keep saying it should be bigger. I now am going to make it queen sized. You can see I have a long way to go. Each box is 10x10 inches. I first make each box and then lay it out and sew them up once I have at least a row to make. You can also see the mountain dew that I need to keep my energy going late at night.

I also have been working on cup cozies--currently working on a bunch for FATHER'S DAY.

Always looking for a new item to make for others as well--so please if you see something but not in the color you like let me know--Have a great June all!!

Jenco13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01732569676483795329noreply@blogger.com2
